Nushiyu Ryokan sits right beside the Yubatake (湯畑), Kusatsu's famous hot spring field, and the outdoor bath looks straight out over it. The water comes from the Shirahata-no-yu (白旗の湯) source, runs kakenagashi (fresh-flowing, not recirculated), and feels milky and smooth in the tub. Separate indoor baths for men and women complement the rotenburo, and a small private family bath is available to guests without a reservation or extra charge. The building has a well-worn, old-ryokan feel and is run by a family; nothing fancy, but the location and the water quality are hard to beat in Kusatsu.
