A blended spring drawing on three wells — Oka No. 191, No. 152, and No. 137 — sampled from the storage tank in Ito's Suehiro neighborhood. The wellhead temperature is a hot 44.2 °C, but the total dissolved solids sit at a light 808 mg/kg, placing it firmly in simple thermal territory. Weakly alkaline at pH 8.2, the water reads soft on the skin, with sodium leading the cations and chloride and sulfate sharing the anion column almost evenly.

About

Daitokan bills itself as a bath lover's inn, and six baths back it up: two indoor bathhouses, a large open-air bath, and three private baths, a Goemon-buro (五右衛門風呂) and a reclining bath among them, that any guest can use for free without booking. All of it, room baths included, runs on undiluted source water that's kept flowing rather than recirculated. It's a mild, low-scent spring that reviewers describe as gentle and slightly smooth on the skin, with a hot tub and a cooler one rather than a sauna. The building has an old, lived-in feel that regulars seem to like, and while dinner isn't served, breakfast comes free with the stay.

239. Daitokan, Ito Visited for higaeri at 1100 with towels (listed hours 14:00–22:00). They stamp the 60 Onsen of Shizuoka 24/25 booklet. Located in the building next to the well-known Yokikan from the travel chat. Higaeri gives access to the public bath (which rotates M/F) and three private baths on a first-come-first-served basis. I managed to visit two private and the public bath (no rotenburo). All three baths had the same water composition on their placards. 1. Private outdoor bath. Located separately — you need to leave the hotel building itself (there are even special rubber slippers provided for this). Very cozy in the evening. Clear water, temperature 39. 2. The passage to the indoor public and private baths goes through a cave, which adds great atmosphere. The indoor bath consists of two sections: the left one at 38.5, the right at 41. Clear water, comfortable to breathe inside. 3. Private Goemon bath with hellish cauldrons. Super cool, atmospheric, and powerful. Especially after walking through another cave segment inside the ryokan. Clear water in the cauldrons, one at 41.5, the other at 43.5. A bit stuffy inside. An excellent place for higaeri — long time slot and amazing private baths. Haven't been to the second public onsen yet — it's listed as having a rotenburo. If staying at Yokikan — the perfect combo would be to do higaeri at this ryokan and expand your onsen experience.
