Classification

Sodium-Calcium Bicarbonate-Sulfate-Chloride spring

A sodium-calcium spring blending bicarbonate, sulfate, and chloride character, emerging hot at 60.5 C with neutral pH. Metasilicic acid is unusually generous at 261 mg/kg, leaving a thin silica film that smooths the skin afterwards. The water carries a faint yellow tint, a moderate astringent edge on the tongue, and the unmistakable whiff of hydrogen sulfide typical of Kurokawa Onsen.

8. Ryokan Konoyu, Kurokawa Onsen ★★★ We visited for a day trip on December 31, 2025, just before the New Year. The day trip was honestly available until 9:00 PM. The baths at night have a different atmosphere, but it's very cool. 31.12.2025

8. Ryokan Konoyu, Kurokawa Onsen ★★★ Visited for higaeri, located a short uphill walk from the Kurokawa tourist center. Higaeri usually available from 8:30 to 21:00, rarely has a day off during the week. Included in the Kurokawa tegata. There's a foot bath at the entrance. Higaeri guests only have access to the public outdoor bath zone; ryokan guests also get an additional private outdoor bath and in-room baths. The outdoor bath zone consists of: 1. Large outdoor stone bath. Very natural atmosphere. Water is clear, slightly cloudy greenish, temperature 42-43. Under the roof the bath is shallower. 2. Small cave onsen adjoining the large outdoor bath. Somewhat stuffy inside, water temperature 42-43. 3. Separate standing bath at 160 cm depth, reached by walking a short path beyond the main bath (past the roof). View of the forest, buildings, and sunset. Clear water with sparse fine mineral deposits, temperature 41. Atmospheric and functionally interesting outdoor bath zone. Highly recommended for a visit. 08.04.2025
