Simple

A hot (53.3 °C) blended source pooling 15 wells from five Shimoda-area districts (Aitama, Kawachi, Rendaiji, Osawa and Shimoda), classified as a simple thermal spring with a quiet, well-balanced composition. The water is weakly alkaline (pH 8.1) and soft on the skin, sitting on the edge of Japan's beauty-water family. Lightly mineralized overall at 814 mg/kg, but a notable 346.5 mg/kg of sulfate — backed by 118.9 mg/kg of chloride — gives the bath more body than the simple-thermal label suggests.

243. 下田荘 浜辺の湯, Shimoda Visited for higaeri at 600 (with stamp book) + 100 for a towel (listed hours 13:00–21:00). They stamp the 60 Onsen of Shizuoka 24/25 booklet. Cozy place themed around surfing or SUP — the announcements, decor, and magazines all reflect it. There's a private bath (didn't take it, but looks fun in photos). Indoor bath with clear water, temperature 42. Air is tolerable. If you're into surfing/SUP, this place could be interesting (I'm not into it, but it was still fun to look around while waiting for a taxi). Otherwise, probably a skip given the remote location and fairly simple bath.
