Gero Onsen Gassho-mura is an open-air folk museum rather than a bathhouse: ten thatched-roof gassho-zukuri (合掌造り) farmhouses relocated from the Shirakawa-go area, rebuilt into a small hillside village. The one bathing feature is a free foot bath, the Gassho-no-Yu (合掌の足湯), fed by Gero's hot-spring water and tucked quietly among the old houses. The rest of the grounds holds a folklore hall, the Enku-kan (円空館) Buddha-carving hall, pottery and washi-painting workshops, a small shrine, and a 175-meter slide through the trees. Come for the houses and the walk, and treat the foot bath as a nice break partway round rather than the main event.
