Bicarbonate
+ Chloride

A sodium-led bicarbonate-chloride spring — the classic 'jūsō-sen' style softened by a faint salt-tinged finish. Weakly alkaline (pH 8.17) and soft on the skin, it sits squarely in the Japanese "beauty-water" family that Ureshino is best known for. The wellhead runs hot at 87.9 °C — among Japan's hottest natural sources — and a generous 161 mg/kg of metasilicic acid leaves the kind of silica film that makes skin feel noticeably smoother afterwards.

451. Ryokan Warakuen, Ureshino Visited for higaeri using 8 Ureshino tickets, towel set included. Higaeri available from 11:30 to 14:00 (except Tue). They stamp the 10 Onsen of Ureshino book. Bath photos from the internet, accurate. The onsen has a unique feature — they make a tea onsen and actually place a tea bag at the drain. But in the bath itself I couldn't figure out where the tea water was — the greenish tint and tea indication were only in the cold water tub. Maybe the tea water in the main bath is visually and smell-wise indistinguishable, maybe they didn't place the bag that day, maybe it applies to other baths I didn't get to try. Two corner baths inside with clear water, temperature around 40. Comfortable to breathe inside. Between the indoor baths there's a passage to the outdoor bath. Small outdoor stone bath. Nice intimate view of trees and rocks. Clear water, temperature 44. There's a sauna and a cold water tub. Overall not bad, I'd say solid. 31.03.2025
