A blended Shibu Onsen source combining the Hira-no-yu, Yakushi-no-yu and Tonbi-no-yu wells — a sodium-calcium sulfate-chloride spring drawn very hot at 65 °C. The settled, mineral-rich sulfate body carries a salty edge from the chloride sub-type, and a generous 151 mg/kg of metasilicic acid leaves the kind of silica film that makes skin feel smoother afterwards. The water is faintly yellow and clear at the source with a slight metallic iron taste, and sits among Japan's hottest natural sources.

39. Public Bath No.3 Wata-no-yu, Shibu Onsen, Nagano An old-school onsen. Free of charge when staying at some ryokan in Shibu Onsen, which give you a key to the village’s 9 public onsens. Hours are listed as 06:00 to 22:00, if you have the key while staying at the ryokan. They stamp the Shibu Onsen Kyu-meguri stamp. No staff, no shower. Indoor bath. The water is mostly clear, slightly cloudy with a pale greenish tint. At 6 in the morning, the temperature was 50.5. It was easy to breathe inside, but early in the morning in winter it was cold in the room. 03.01.2024 17.01.2026
