66. Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Gero Bekkan, Gero Onsen, Gifu ★ In April 2024, it had a different owner and name, Yukai Resort Gero Saichoraku Bekkan. In 2026, I visited it again under the new name as part of the Ooedo chain. The condition of the uchiyu in 2026 was worse than it was in 2024. I went for a higaeri using the Gero tegata. After the move to Ooedo, the regular price is ¥700 on weekdays, ¥1 000 on weekends, and ¥1 200 on busy days. Higaeri is listed as 07:00 to 10:00 + 15:00 to 24:00 (last entry at 22:00) with regular payment, and 17:00 to 21:00 when entering with the tegata (Monday to Friday). 1. The rotenburo is set in stone. Even though the bath is on the top floor of the building, it feels like it is in a low-lying area, with a hill around it and trees on top. The atmosphere is very cozy both in the evening and during the day. The water is clear, temperature 42-42.5. 2. The uchiyu area. It is comfortable to breathe inside. The bath photos online are accurate. In 2024, I remember the condition as not ideal, and in 2026 it clearly got worse. 2.1. The nearer bath. The water is clear, temperature 41. 2.2. The farther bath, mirrored relative to the nearer one. The water is clear, temperature 41.5. 2.3. Sauna. 2.4. Cold barrel. A very pleasant rotenburo on the upper level. A straightforward hot-spring hotel on a hillside above the Hida river in Gero, with plain rooms and a large indoor bath alongside a separate open-air bath set among trees. The spring water is often described as soft on the skin, sometimes called bijin-no-yu (美人の湯), or "beauty water." There's a sauna off the indoor bath, and meals are served buffet style, with breakfast and dinner included for overnight stays. The building has a lot of stairs and elevators between floors, and parking sits some distance away, reached by hotel shuttle.
