Tsuki no Akari

Tsuki no Akari (月のあかり) is a self-service ryokan in the Higashiyama Onsen hot-spring district of Aizuwakamatsu. Guests handle check-in and meals on their own terms, which keeps the atmosphere low-key. The rooftop open-air bath, Hoshi-tsuki no Yu (星月の湯), is the main draw, with men and women taking turns by time slot. Inside, two communal baths, Tori no Yu (鳥の湯) and Hana no Yu (花の湯), share the same alkaline spring water. Note that the rooftop bath closes intermittently in winter to prevent freezing; during those periods guests can use the baths at the sister ryokan Shousuke no Yado Taki no Yu (庄助の宿 瀧の湯) nearby.
