Mixed BathingYes

Shared bathing area for all genders

About

A ryokan operating since 1913 along a small valley stream, its rooms all facing the water. The mixed outdoor bath, Seseragi no Yu (せゝらぎの湯), sits beside the stream with the seasonal mountain scenery as a backdrop; women have designated exclusive hours. The water is a weak alkaline simple spring. The place renovated in 2021 and carries a thoughtful, unhurried feel without pretending to be more luxurious than it is.

A slightly more detailed review. An old but very well-maintained ryokan on the banks of the Tanigawa River, right at the foot of Mount Tanigawa. The water is soft and alkaline, 54 degrees at the source. Your skin becomes supple and stress melts away. The main bath is a konyoku (mixed bath) by the river, with no washing area or soap. There are dedicated women-only hours and kashikiri (private) time slots. Additionally, there's a gender-separated rooftop area with a rotenburo and a hinoki (cypress) bath, and a small kazokuburo (family bath) without a rotenburo. There's also a drinking spring. Delicious mineral water! The food is excellent kaiseki. Free coffee and all-you-can-eat ice cream. And the views. The views are incredible. I think the autumn foliage here would be absolutely stunning.
