About

A ryokan in Zao Onsen with a rock-carved open-air bath and a wooden indoor bath, both kakenagashi (源泉掛け流し, flowing direct from the spring without recirculation). The water here is strongly acidic and leaves skin noticeably smooth. A private rental bath is also available. As part of the Takamiya (高見屋) group, guests can do a yu-meguri (湯めぐり, bath-hopping circuit) at nearby affiliated properties.

Sulfur spring. The water in the rotenburo is a comfortable temperature — you can sit there for a very long time. I was here a few years ago during a snowfall and sat until a snowdrift grew on my head. The bath is small, fits two people max, but both last time and this time I had it all to myself. The views aren't as beautiful as at the hotel where we stayed, but it was really nice to come here for free just for a change of pace.
