salt's cation — pairs with chloride to make the water salty.

table-salt anion — coats the skin and holds heat in.
Known good for
  • Smooth skindry, rough skin
  • Recoveryfatigue, stress

A weakly alkaline simple thermal spring with light overall mineralization (0.634 g/kg) but a respectable 60.9 mg/kg of metasilicic acid — enough to place it in the Japanese 'beauty-water' family with a subtly smoothing feel on the skin. On the anion side chloride and sulfate sit almost evenly matched, giving a sodium-led, clean-tasting profile rather than any one mineral character dominating.

About

Oka Hotei no Yu is a small neighbourhood bathhouse in Ito, one of the Shichifukujin no Yu (七福神の湯), a handful of communal baths around town each named for one of the Seven Lucky Gods, this one for Hotei. The men's and women's sides each have two indoor tubs of real onsen water, one hot and one milder, so you can pick your temperature, plus a private family bath by the hour. It's a bare, well-worn spot with a real Showa-era feel, the kind of place locals return to rather than a polished bathhouse for visitors.

207. Okayukaikan Oka Hotei Hot Spring, Ito An old-school onsen. Costs 450 to enter and 150 for a towel. They stamp the Shizuoka 60 Onsens rally book. No body wash or shampoo, just two showers. Breathing inside is tolerable. Two baths inside. Water is clear, temperature is hot.
