Hakkoda Hotel sits on the Hakkoda plateau in Aomori and draws its water from the Arakawa source, a strongly acidic spring that runs clear. The main bath hall is lined with Aomori hiba (青森ヒバ), a local hinoki-like timber prized for its scent, and a wall of windows looks out over an untouched beech forest. There is also a sauna with a cold plunge. Guests staying at the hotel get free access to the sister facility Sukayu Onsen (酸ヶ湯温泉) via a scheduled shuttle, which is the main draw for many visitors.
