River Oyunuma Natural Footbath

A short walk through the forest from the Noboribetsu spa town leads to this riverside footbath fed by water flowing down from the sulfurous Oyunuma lake above. A wooden platform over the river lets you dip your feet into naturally warm, mildly sulfurous water with steam rising around you. Simple and free, it is a genuine geothermal experience rather than a tourist gimmick.
