YesOpen only from around late April to early November, closed for winter; in 2026 it also closes for maintenance on June 4 and July 13. Last entry is 16:30 on weekdays and 17:30 on weekends and holidays. A separate evening session ("starry-sky rotenburo") runs 18:30 to 21:00 on select dates from June to October, outside these regular hours.
850 yen for adults, 400 yen for children (ages 1 to 11). No showers or soap, since the water comes straight from the spring, and towels are sold at the counter rather than rented. The separate evening session is priced apart at 1,000 yen for adults and 500 yen for children, and discount tickets or ryokan bathing passes aren't valid for it.

This is an outdoor-only bath built into the rock along a stream above Zao Onsen town, so there's no indoor option and no showers or soap since the sulfur water comes straight from the spring. It splits into two connected pools at different heights, a hotter one and a cooler one you can soak in longer, and part of the water spilling into the lower pool doubles as a small waterfall bath. A wooden changing hut, built without a single nail, leads down through a gate to the rock-lined pools, with forest around you and the stream running past. Towels are sold at the counter if you come without one. It only opens from around late April to early November and closes for winter.
