Gero Kanko Hotel

Water profile

Gero Kanko Hotel

Spring chemistry and what it does, with the research behind it.

湯SimpleSodium Chloride spring

An alkaline simple thermal spring drawn from the Koda pumping station in Gero. The high alkalinity gives it the slippery, soft-on-the-skin feel that places it squarely in Japan's beauty-water family. The water is only lightly mineralized and gentle on the body, yet it carries a generous load of metasilicic acid, which leaves the thin silica film that makes skin feel noticeably smoother afterwards. The posted analysis lists the spring-type indications for simple thermal water — autonomic nervous system instability, insomnia and depressed mood — alongside the standard bathing indications for stiff muscles and joints and for fatigue recovery.

Good for

Aches & joints

Warmth eases stiffness and raises the pain threshold. Radon and sulfate springs show the strongest evidence for joint and muscle pain.

stiff shoulders

On the 2018 certificate:Muscle stiffness associated with motor paralysis

Smooth skin

Bicarbonate and alkalinity gently lift dead keratin while silica hydrates, leaving skin smooth. This is the basis of the beautifying-water (bijin-no-yu 美人の湯) reputation.

dry, rough skin

Recovery

Warmth and buoyancy lower stress markers and improve sleep; habitual bathing is linked to lower rates of depression.

fatigue, stress
