Foot BathThe bath is on the top floor: a big indoor tub, an open-air bath that catches the breeze across the Yufuin basin, a sauna, and a cold plunge next to it. The water is a clear, mild spring with hardly any smell, easygoing rather than intense. Both baths line up with Mount Yufu's twin peaks; the view is best around sunset, and mornings outside are quieter still. There's a footbath by the entrance too, though there's no private family bath, just the one shared bathing floor. Shuhokan sits in open farmland on the edge of Yufuin, more relaxed than a formal ryokan: it's a room-only style stay where you set your own pace, and there's a ramen counter downstairs that's open to non-guests as well.

Stayed overnight — a huge Western-style room. Onsen on the 4th floor (out of 4) with a view of Mount Yufu — very beautiful. A large indoor bath with clear water and a small outdoor one with milky cloudy water. The view is incredible, temperature is fine. There's a foot bath near the hotel. Breakfast seems to be kaiseki-style — we didn't take it. We took dinner, which is not kaiseki — a set of ramen (your choice), fried rice, and gyoza — tasty and plenty for us.
