Senkei Hotel is a small ryokan on the Sugumo River in Hakone-Yumoto. Its defining trait: all 15 guest rooms come with their own onsen bath, drawn straight from the hotel's own spring, and several of the nicer rooms add a rotenburo or half-open-air tub facing Yusaka-yama and the river. Beyond the rooms, there's a panoramic open-air bath on the top floor and a separate tiled-roof bathhouse, both split by a men's and women's rotation schedule. The water itself is colorless and odorless, a soft alkaline spring locals call a skin-smoothing bath. It's an older, modest building on the quiet Taki-dori street along the river, where a spring-fed waterwheel turns by the entrance. With only a handful of rooms, the place has a quaint, traditional feel, and guests often mention unhurried, attentive service, quieter and more low-key than Hakone's bigger resort ryokans.
