Itoen Hotel Kusatsu is a large, no-frills hotel a short drive or free shuttle ride from Kusatsu's yubatake (湯畑), the town's famous source pool. The communal baths, an indoor bath and an open-air bath with snow-viewing in winter, run on kakenagashi onsen water straight from the source: sharp and strongly acidic, the way Kusatsu's spring water is known for. A sauna and a cold plunge sit alongside them, and there's also a free, reservation-only private bath. One of the room types has its own semi-open-air bath fed by the same water. It's part of the budget Itoen Hotels chain, so the stay is simple rooms and a buffet dinner rather than traditional ryokan service, plus a free karaoke room downstairs. Reviewers call it quiet and a little removed from the town center, with the water itself the main reason to come.
