Mominoki is a small eight-room inn in the Nitta district of Nozawa Onsen, a couple of minutes from the ski slopes. The bath inside is heated tap water rather than spring water, but the public bath Nitta-no-yu is a one-minute walk away for the real onsen soak. What the inn is known for is its table: home-style cooking built on vegetables and fruit from the owners' own garden and Nagano-grown meat and fish, including the proprietress's roast beef, slow-cooked in onsen water for hours. In winter, a charcoal brazier and a shelf of local folk toys give the small lobby an old-fashioned, homey feel.
