Hamaya is a small family-run minshuku (民宿) above Suzaki fishing port in Shimoda, reached by climbing a flight of 89 steps up the hillside. Its two baths are for private, reservable use (kashikiri, 貸切) rather than shared, and the water is soft and, by reviewers' accounts, runs quite hot. There's no rotenburo, just indoor tubs, but the rooms and baths look out over Suzaki's harbor. Dinner centers on fresh seafood and is served in your room.
