The main bath, Togen-no-Yu (桃源の湯), sits on a high floor with a wide view over the surrounding mountains; guests often come up early for the sunrise over the town below. The water is from Hakugin-no-Yu (白銀の湯), clear and colorless, smooth on the skin. There's no shared open-air bath, but two of the guest rooms, Kikyo (桔梗) and Aoi (葵), each have their own small private open-air tub you can use any time: one set in pale green Shigaraki ware, the other styled after an old tea room. Fukuzen itself is an old-school taishu ryokan in Ikaho, plain and family-run, where meals are still served in your room and the staff lay out the futon for you, a style of hospitality that hasn't changed much since the Showa era.
