This six-room inn in Gero Onsen keeps all three of its baths private: you lock the door from the inside and have the room to yourselves. Two indoor baths, one looking toward the river and one toward the mountains, are open from the afternoon through the next morning, and a hinoki (cypress) tub outside can be booked in short, timed turns in the evening. The water comes straight from Gero's own spring, known for a smooth, almost silky feel, and said to help with muscle and joint aches. It's a quiet, family-run place with a house cat that turns up in the lobby or on the stairs when she feels like it.
