Ikaho Shusuien

Ikaho Shusuien is a hillside ryokan above the Ikaho onsen streets, with two large indoor communal baths: Kamitsuke-no-yu (かみつけの湯), with a tiled mural of the local mountains, and Ehigasa-no-yu (絵日傘の湯), lit softly through stained glass. The two swap between men's and women's sides each morning and evening, so an overnight stay covers both, and there's also a rotenburo on the same floor. The water itself is the local Shirogane-no-yu (白銀の湯) spring: clear, scentless, and gentle enough that the site recommends it for older guests and anyone recovering from illness. A few recent reviews mention a mist sauna tucked into the Ehigasa-no-yu side. Beyond the baths, the inn leans into a slightly playful, old-fashioned mood: a lobby full of lucky tanuki figurines guests are encouraged to go hunting for, a tatami rest area (Tetsuan, 哲庵) to unwind in after bathing, a rooftop terrace looking out at Mt. Haruna and Mt. Akagi, and occasional in-house rakugo storytelling nights.
