Reisen Heisuke (霊泉平右) is a small pension in the forest above central Kusatsu, a seven-minute walk from the Yubatake (湯畑). Guests bathe in one of two private open-air baths, one considerably larger than the other, filled with sulfur-scented spring water from the Bandaikou (万代鉱) source and open around the clock. Dinner is home-cooked, course by course, served in a glass-walled dining room, something regulars mention often. The elderly couple who run the place have kept its retro, well-worn character rather than modernizing it.
