Fujiyoshi Izu is a small ryokan in the hills above Ito, spread across a few older buildings rather than one big block. There are only a handful of guest rooms, and every one has its own bath fed by the property's own spring. On top of that, guests can book any of several separately named private baths, some looking out over Sagami Bay, and an open-air bath shares the same view. The water comes straight from the on-site spring and is kept flowing rather than recirculated. Dinner, and the day-use meal plans, lean heavily on local seafood: charcoal-grilled catch and big boat-shaped sashimi platters. Reviews describe an old-fashioned, quiet atmosphere, more like a cluster of Japanese houses than a hotel, and day visitors sometimes end up with a bath entirely to themselves.
