About

Vent Vert is a small family-run pension a quiet, uphill walk from Kusatsu's Yubatake. It has three separate baths, an open-air one facing the forest, plus a cypress-wood room and a stone one, each filled with the town's own spring water and booked by one party at a time with no time limit. The water is sharp and acidic on the skin, without the sulfur smell many people expect from Kusatsu. Opened in 1979 and named Vent Vert (French for green wind) after a perfume the founder once gave his wife, the inn is now run by her family's third generation and reopened after a full renovation in 2023. Dinner is a Western-style course the owner cooks himself, built around local ingredients.
