Yumoto Ginsenkaku is a hot-spring inn in Sounkyo Onsen, set in the gorge inside Daisetsuzan National Park, a few minutes' walk from the ropeway station. The indoor bath and outdoor rotenburo, kept separate for men and women, run on the inn's own spring, gentle on the skin and kept flowing straight from the source, and there's a sauna alongside plus a private family bath you sign up for on the day itself, no advance booking. A free foot bath by the entrance is open to anyone passing through. The name Yumoto (湯元) means "the source," and that's literal here: this is where Sounkyo Onsen's hot spring actually wells up, feeding the rest of the hot-spring town.
