About

Hotel SunBird sits right by the ski slope in Fujiwara, Minakami, and its main draw is eleven different private open-air baths, each done in its own style, including a boat-shaped ceramic tub made of Mino ware. A separate view rotenburo, Hyakkeika (百景花), sits on a rise looking out over the Tanigawa mountain range and a natural waterfall. The indoor bath runs around the clock and has jacuzzi and jet tubs alongside a proper washing area, and some guest rooms have their own hinoki open-air bath. Outside, a Finnish-style sauna garden lets you cool off under a real waterfall or in the stream beside it. The water throughout is natural onsen spring water. With a birch grove and seasonal flower fields on the grounds, it's a straightforward, family-friendly hotel built as much around its baths as its ski access.
