Hotel Kajikaso

Hotel Kajikaso draws its water from nine springs of its own. The two big communal baths swap between men and women each day: Soun-no-yu (早雲の湯) on the second floor has an eighteen-meter indoor bath plus a rotenburo section with a rock bath called Kajika-no-yu (かじかの湯), named for the same kajika frogs the hotel itself is named after, and Utatane-no-yu (うたたねの湯), built for lazy, half-asleep soaking. Seiryu-no-yu (清流の湯) on the sixth floor has a wood-terraced rotenburo with a few different tub styles, including a round cypress one called Hanami-no-yu (はなみの湯), and windows that open onto the Hakone hills. The water itself is smooth and odorless, soft enough that people tend to linger. Outside, a source-fed footbath runs along the Haya River, open from sunrise to sunset. It's a sizeable hotel, 73 rooms, a five-minute walk from Hakone-Yumoto Station. Most rooms have an ordinary tub, not spring water, but the Kisaki (喜咲), Shusuian (集粋庵), and the newer Ikoi (憩) wing, added in 2024, each have their own private onsen bath. Early summer evenings, you can sometimes hear the kajika frogs (河鹿蛙) the hotel is named after singing along the river.
