About
Tokudaya is a small, family-run ryokan just off Ikaho's stone-steps street, with a single small indoor bath for men and one for women, each really only big enough for two or three people, and no open-air option. The water is Shirogane no Yu (白銀の湯), the clear, colorless half of Ikaho's two springs (the other being the golden Kogane no Yu, 黄金の湯), with a faint mineral smell and a gentle feel on the skin. A private soak, kashikiri (貸切), can be arranged free of charge when the bath is open, though you can't book a set time. The wooden building is old but kept clean, and the proprietress says the inn has been running for around 50 years, which shows in its homey, old-fashioned feel rather than a polished one.
