Yufuin Tsubaki is a small ryokan built as seven detached cottages in the hills above Yufuin, each with its own onsen bath rather than a shared one. There's also a separate bath guests can book privately. The spring water runs kakenagashi straight from the source, and it has the soft, smooth-on-skin quality regulars talk about. Every room looks out at Mount Yufu, and the whole place is built around that quiet: no crowd, no communal bath to share, just your own cottage, the mountain view, and a kaiseki dinner made from local Oita ingredients.
