THE FOREST Akan Tsuruga Resort sits on the shore of Lake Akan, with many rooms looking out over the water and the surrounding mountains. The hotel's own bath is a single indoor onsen room, Hanashizuka (花しづか), with the water kept flowing fresh, plus a sauna alongside it; there's no rotenburo or cold plunge here. Because of that, a fair number of guests instead visit the baths at the sister hotel nearby. A small foot bath next to the neighboring bakery stays open around the clock.
