Katsuho is a small ryokan with 14 rooms on the slope through Ikaho Onsen. The main draw is a reservable private open-air bath, guests get a free half-hour turn, and there's a separate indoor bath open to everyone. One room, the Relax Room, has its own attached open-air bath and only goes to one party a night. The water is the inn's shirogane-no-yu (しろがねの湯), literally silver water. Dinner is served in your room, built around Joshu wagyu beef and seasonal local vegetables. The building is old, and the inn leans into that rather than hiding it. Guests describe a warm, hands-on proprietress and a homely, well-worn feel, with north-facing rooms catching a mountain view on clear days.
