BUNA KUSATSU is a small, semi-unmanned guesthouse with six rooms, a short uphill walk from Kusatsu's Yubatake. It has two private baths, one built in wood and one in tile, open on a first-come basis with no reservation needed; the water is drawn from the nearby Yugawa spring, an unusual type for this part of Kusatsu, and guests describe it as light and smooth on the skin. Check-in is contactless, with an access code sent ahead of arrival and no front desk, and there's a shared kitchen and a kotatsu-warmed common room downstairs to relax in.
