This small family-run inn near Nozawa Onsen's ski slopes has its own bath, though the water isn't from the hot spring: two locked bathrooms are free for guests to use any time, day or night. For an actual onsen soak, Nakao-no-yu (中尾の湯), one of the town's free public bathhouses, is an easy walk away. The building is log cabin style, post-and-beam construction with heavy timber throughout, sitting right at the base of the slope with the chairlift visible from the rooms. The family that runs it cooks home-style Hokushin countryside food, with vegetables from their own garden, wild greens foraged from the hill behind, and local Koshihikari rice.
