HOTEL ITO POWELL sits right on the beach in Ito, and every room faces the ocean. The open-air bath looks straight out to sea and draws on a spring long said to be one of the better ones in town; the water is clear and quite salty on the skin. The outdoor bath is kept flowing fresh, while the indoor bath mixes fresh and recirculated water. The men's and women's baths swap each morning, so staying two nights gets you both. It's an older, no-frills hotel with a retro feel and big plain rooms, more about the setting than polish, best for a long soak facing the water and, in season, the sunrise coming up over the horizon.
