A simple sulfur spring rising in Nozawa Onsen village, Nagano. It surfaces at 71.9 °C — among Japan's hotter natural sources — colorless and clear at the spout, but carrying a strong hydrogen sulfide note and a sulfurous taste. Dissolved solids are light at 945 mg/kg, yet metasilicic acid runs to 110 mg/kg; paired with a mildly alkaline pH, that silica leaves the soft, smoothing finish that places the water in Japan's beauty-water family.
