A somewhat worn-out small hotel, but with a good location and views from the rooms. The food is excellent. The men's and women's onsens switch every other day. Only one has a rotenburo. The water is kakenagashi from the Bandai source. Very hot, they don't cool it down.

Hotel Spax Kusatsu sits on a rise about three minutes from Yubatake, the town's central hot spring field. The indoor baths and a single rotenburo (open-air bath) draw water from the Bandaiko (万代鉱) spring, the highest-volume source in Kusatsu, kept flowing fresh around the clock. Because there is only one rotenburo, it alternates between men and women on a daily basis. Both the men's and women's sides have a sauna.
