Kanshichi-yu

Spring chemistry and what it does, with the research behind it.

勘七源泉Kanshichi Spring

BicarbonateSodium Bicarbonate spring

A sodium-led bicarbonate spring — the classic jūsō-sen (soda-water) style, soft on the skin and squarely in the Japanese beauty-water family. A generous 207.5 mg/kg of metasilicic acid leaves the kind of silica film that makes skin feel noticeably smoother. The well emerges at a scalding 94 °C, among Japan's hottest natural sources, yet reaches the bath undiluted at 100% source strength as free-flow with no recirculation.

Good for

Smooth skin

Bicarbonate and alkalinity gently lift dead keratin while silica hydrates, leaving skin smooth. This is the basis of the beautifying-water (bijin-no-yu 美人の湯) reputation.

dry, rough skin

On the certificate:dry skin

Aches & joints

Warmth eases stiffness and raises the pain threshold. Radon and sulfate springs show the strongest evidence for joint and muscle pain.

stiff shoulders

On the certificate:muscle stiffness in motor paralysis

Recovery

Warmth and buoyancy lower stress markers and improve sleep; habitual bathing is linked to lower rates of depression.

fatigue, stress

On the certificate:autonomic nervous instabilitystress-related symptoms (sleep disorders, depressive states, etc.)recovery period after illnessrecovery from fatiguehealth promotion

Take care

Contraindications
  • active phase of illness (especially when feverish)
  • active tuberculosis
  • advanced malignant tumors or severe anemia and other cases of marked physical debilitation
  • severe heart or lung disease causing breathlessness on slight exertion
  • severe kidney disease with edema
  • gastrointestinal bleeding
  • when there is visible bleeding
  • acute exacerbation of a chronic illness

新井第2号泉・新井第5号泉 混合泉Arai No.2 / Arai No.5 Mixed Spring

BicarbonateSodium Bicarbonate-Chloride spring · +Chloride

A blended bicarbonate-chloride spring drawing on the Arai No.2 and Arai No.5 wells. The mellow soda-water character of a bicarbonate spring carries a salty edge from the chloride sub-type, and a weakly alkaline pH keeps it soft on the skin. A generous 180.8 mg/kg of metasilicic acid leaves a thin silica film that smooths the skin. Sampled from the mixing tank at a hot 66 °C and, because the source runs so hot, diluted with water before reaching the bath.

Warming

Salt forms a film on the skin that slows heat loss, so the warmth lingers long after the bath (the classic heat-keeping water, nettō 熱の湯).

Cuts

Mineral-rich chloride, sulfate and sulfur waters have a long-recorded soothing effect on minor cuts and slow-healing skin.
