A sodium-calcium chloride spring, one of the sources at Shima Onsen, with sulfate adding quiet body behind the salt. It runs weakly alkaline and soft on the skin, moderately mineralized with a noticeable presence in the water. At the wellhead it is colorless and clear with only the faintest salty tang — the source name Shio-no-yu means 'salt hot water', and the water lives up to it. Metasilicic acid at 89 mg/kg puts it in Japan's beauty-water family, leaving the kind of thin silica film that makes skin feel noticeably smoother afterwards.
