A blend of three Shima Onsen wellheads (Yu-no-Izumi, Yamadori, and Gomuso) yielding a calcium-sodium sulfate spring with settled, mineral-rich body. At pH 8.7 the water is alkaline with the slippery beauty-water feel, and a modest 50.8 mg/kg of metasilicic acid layers in extra softness on the skin. The bath is served as untreated source flow — no dilution, heating, recirculation, or disinfection.

Gomuso no Yu (御夢想の湯) is a small communal bath in Shima Onsen, traditionally regarded as the place where the spring first appeared. According to local lore, a retainer of the Heian warrior Minamoto no Yorimitsu (源頼光) was praying through the night on this spot when a deity appeared in a dream and promised a spring that would cure all ailments. The water rose on waking. The current wooden bathhouse was built in 2006. Inside, a compact indoor bath faces a wide window looking out at the forested hillside. The water is colorless and clear. An outdoor foot bath sits just beside the building. Entry is free by donation; soap and shampoo are not permitted inside.

Free, cozy, clean, kakenagashi, river visible from the window. What more do you need? A very nice temperature of 45 degrees that really warms you from the inside. Open 9:00-15:00.
