A sodium-led chloride spring with bicarbonate softness layered in, moderately mineralized and with noticeable body. It runs alkaline, giving the slippery feel that places it squarely in Japan's beauty-water family, and a generous 178 mg/kg of metasilicic acid leaves the kind of silica film that makes skin feel noticeably smoother afterwards. The wellhead itself is among Japan's hottest natural sources. A notice posted at the facility says every bath here runs as aoyu — blue water — while adding that on some days the blue simply doesn't show.

492. Yasuha, Yufuin ★★ Stayed overnight, before that I had visited on a day-trip basis. For day-trip visitors, they only allow access to the small indoor bath for ¥900 and the private baths for ¥2300/2800, the rotenburo is not available. Day-trip hours are listed as 10:00~21:00. They stamp the Kyushu 88 Onsen rally book. They used to sell the Yukemurichou stamp. The staff are Japanese and friendly. There was a mix-up with the reservation, but they had misunderstood me, they found the booking and apologized. I took a room in the main building on the second floor. It included free use of the private bath in the same building. The meals were a kaiseki dinner and breakfast, both decent. 1. Outdoor stone bath. View of the trees. Visually it is smaller than in the photos on the official website, and the water did not have such a deep blue color. The bath gives the best experience in the evening if you turn off the lights in the indoor bath, then a sacred, very cozy dark atmosphere is created. The water is clear with a slight blue tint. Temperature 42-43. 2. Indoor bath before going out to the outdoor bath. In the evening this is exactly where you should turn off the lights to bring out the outdoor bath as much as possible. The water is clear with a slight blue tint. Temperature 44-44.5. It is easy to breathe inside. 3. Private bath in the main building. You can open the window, then there is a view of the roof and the trees. The water is clear with a slight blue tint. Temperature 41. It is easy to breathe inside. 4. Small separate indoor bath, available for day-trip visitors. It is located in buildings separate from the main building. The water is clear, temperature 42. It is easy to breathe inside. A day-trip visit seems like a rather debatable option if you do not need the Kyushu 88 stamp rally achievement. But for staying overnight, it is recommended, the place is pleasant, the rotenburo with the lights off in the evening is special, the staff are nice, the location is a bit far from the station, but it is close to some great day-trip baths nearby. 07.04.2025 05.01.2026 06.01.2026
