Simple

An alkaline simple thermal spring drawing on a blend of the Yumoto No. 37, 50, and 110 wells at Tonosawa in Hakone. At pH 9.1 it is strongly alkaline, giving the slippery, skin-smoothing feel of Japan's beauty-water family. The water is colorless, transparent, and odorless, gentle on the body with little mineral edge.

About

A ryokan that has been open since 1630 and is registered as a tangible cultural property. The 4-storey wooden sukiya-zukuri (数寄屋造り) building sits along Hayakawa gorge. Shared indoor baths rotate between men and women daily; some rooms come with their own open-air or view baths. There is also a kashikiri (貸切) private indoor bath made from Italian marble imported during the Taisho era. Day-use bathing is available.

187. Tonosawa Ichinoyu Honkan, Hakone Day-use bathing should be 1400 with a towel set + the receipt lets you visit other Ichinoyu locations in Hakone for free that same day (I got into this one for free using the receipt). Day-use hours are 13:00 to 20:00. One indoor bath. Clear water, hot temperature. Comfortable to breathe inside. Window view of the river. Worth visiting if you're doing the Ichinoyu receipt run. Otherwise can be skipped.
