About
Hatoguruma Kawabata is a small, family-run minshuku on a quiet street above the busier part of Nozawa Onsen, with a view over the village rooftops and a stream audible nearby. The house bath is simple, one room each for men and women. Two of the village's public bathhouses are a few minutes' walk away, each fed by a different spring, and the owners will point you toward them for a proper soak. Food is really what sets this place apart. The inn bills itself as Nozawa Onsen's only vegetarian-cuisine lodging, cooking home-style meals from seasonal vegetables with no meat or fish. Guests often mention a warm, homely welcome from the couple who run it.
