A calcium-sodium sulfate spring, carried on the certificate under the older classification of a glauber-salt and gypsum water. Sulfate makes up close to four-fifths of the anions, which gives the bath its settled, mineral-rich body, while the weakly alkaline chemistry keeps it soft on the skin. Metasilicic acid above 50 mg/kg puts it within Japan's beauty-water family, and at 1,213 mg/kg of dissolved solids it is moderately mineralized with noticeable body.

Fudokan Oyanoyu, Ashinomaki, Fukushima One of the lively ryokan in the town of Ashinomaki, where nature is gradually reclaiming a cluster of abandoned facilities above a mountain gorge, in front of the river. The ryokan itself is in decent condition, but not luxurious. The main draw here is the view of the gorge, and the bath in front of that gorge, with a view of the river. Very natural, beautiful, and relaxing. Baths: a warm rotenburo (40), an indoor hot bath in wood (42), all kakenagashi. The water is soft, sulfate-rich. The food is fine for this price range, nothing fancy, but tasty. The rooms are ordinary, clean, but THE VIEW.
