Furusawa Onsen is a family-run inn in Odate where the main draw, besides the bath, is meeting the resident Akita dogs. The baths are indoor, separate for men and women, and the water is the smooth, slippery kind that leaves skin soft. In summer the inn also runs a nuruyu (ぬる湯), a lukewarm bath, on warm days only. Day-use bathing (higaeri nyuyoku, 日帰り入浴) is open to non-guests, and locals drop in often. The building has an old-fashioned, Showa-era feel, and the inn cooks with local Akita ingredients.
