About
Izumi no Yu is a small public bathhouse run by the town of Teshikaga, near Lake Mashu in eastern Hokkaido. Inside are two adjoining indoor tubs, one hot and one warm, both fed by the same onsen water; regulars say a soak leaves the skin warm and smooth. An attendant sits at the bandai (番台), the raised seat between the men's and women's sides, and the plain, well-worn building has the kind of Showa-era feel visitors call nostalgic rather than run down. Bring your own soap and shampoo, since none are sold on site.
