Yoshida Onsen Ryokan Ito

Ryokan Ito is the only ryokan in Yoshida Onsen, a small hot-spring hamlet north of Kyomachi Onsen in the Ebino hills. The rooms have no bath of their own; everyone bathes in the same rock-built family bath, fed by an underground spring, with rooms taking turns rather than sharing at once. The water runs cloudy, and guests describe a faint sulfur smell mixing with the sound of the river outside. A couple runs the whole place, cooking mountain vegetables, venison and local chicken instead of seafood, brought to the table course by course.
