A small ryokan in Zao Onsen, all Japanese-style rooms, with a men's bath and a women's bath called Kokeshi no Yu (こけしの湯). The inn says the spring water is real kakenagashi (源泉掛け流し, fresh water flowing through the bath), and in-house guests can soak at any hour. The baths are indoor; there is no confirmed open-air bath. The name points to the kokeshi dolls of the Tohoku region, and the feel is old-fashioned and homely rather than polished. Bath towels and yukata can be rented. Day-use bathing (日帰り入浴, higaeri nyuyoku) is not confirmed, so call ahead.
